Our Shepherd
Written for Pastor John
From the Congregation of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
For centuries there have been shepherds,
leading their sheep along the way,
and even though sheep are prone to wander,
the shepherd must keep them from going astray.
The sheep cannot resist temptation,
when they see green grass or fresh cut hay,
what they don’t see are the hungry wolves
the shepherd must keep away.
At St. Peter’s we have a shepherd,
he goes by the name of Pastor John,
he leads his sheep to greener pastures,
he makes certain it’s the right path we’re on.
He greets us every Sunday,
not with a “baa” but a friendly “hello,”
he speaks of God and His only Son,
how His love for us only grows.
Pastor John takes his calling seriously,
he cares for his entire flock,
he takes the time to listen to all of us,
regardless of what time is on the clock.
We appreciate his sincerity,
his positive attitude and dedication,
we can’t help but to admire his passion
for First Communions and Confirmations.
At St. Peter’s we are a family,
we’re always working to help one another,
every Sunday we worship together
like good sisters and good brothers.
And our shepherd, Pastor John,
makes it known what God has done,
for God so loved the world and us,
that he gave his only Son.
Pastor John has taken many journeys,
he likes to cruise once a year,
but we sheep can’t help but thank everyday
the good Lord for sending him here.
